Hello once again, my lovely readers. I know you were all expecting the already long-overdue release of Flying High, and the much, much longer awaited release of Tangled Love. And some of you who might be newer readers are probably confused and frustrated by the unexplained disappearance of those two pre-orders from the store. And I know at least a few of you have been asking why I suddenly disappeared entirely from Twitter and my blog.Continue reading
*Beleaguered sigh* Well… Flying High was supposed to have been out a week ago, but things got delayed by again mostly due to stuff I had to do for my new day job that I just started (oh yeah, I got a new job, btw, yay me; leave it to me to think I could manage to release a book and start a new full-time job at the same time while also still working another part-time job for at least the next couple months), plus I realized “oh shit, I should probably file my tax returns already before I forget and do it at literally the last possible moment yet again,” plus I finally got my official ADHD diagnosis back, except the small neuropsych practice that did my eval. doesn’t actually do treatment, so now I need to go through the whole process again of being referred to a doctor… you could say I got a little overwhelmed. Oh, and then my computer crapped out on me for a couple days and of course I panicked thinking I’d have to get a new one, but thankfully it wasn’t as bad as all that. This laptop is definitely on its last legs, though, so I’m thinking I might have to just bite the bullet and put at least some of that $1400 COVID relief check towards a new one.
By the time I was able to adequately focus on putting the final touches on my manuscript I figured I’d still be able to have it for sale by this past weekend, but alas, no. My books seem to usually get stuck in review on KDP for a while, so we’ll see how this week goes. Sorry it looks like it’ll still be at least a few more days, but hey, at least you have this recap to tide you over, right?
Oh, and in other news that you may or may not care about, I literally just found out that Freed (the upcoming final installment of 50 Shades from Christian’s POV) is going to be 768 pages long. That’s almost two hundred pages longer than the original Fifty Shades Freed, and on average, a little over two hundred pages longer than most of the other books in the series. What’s contained within those extra 200 pages remains to be seen. The secrets of the universe? A surprise “ten years later” epilogue in which Ana fakes her own death to escape her abusive marriage and in the course of the investigation it’s revealed that Christian was a serial killer all along? Maybe after selling her soul in exchange for these books being a massive success, ELJ was forced to uphold her end of the bargain by copying and pasting an excerpt from the Necronomicon right in the middle of the book, and all who read it shall be damned for eternity. All I know is Freed was in the “books you make like” section of the Amazon page of one of my books, so she’d better appreciate the free promotion I’m unwillingly giving her.
It’s 2021, bitches, and do you know what that means? Yep, it’s the 10th anniversary we’ve all (?) been waiting for: Fifty Shades officially turns a decade old.
So, uh, yeah, we’re really doing this. This is where my life is at right now. As you might recall from my last blog post, I had a few more announcements that I didn’t get around to since it got just a little long-winded. So, surprise! You’re getting the chapter-by-fucking-chapter Fifty Shades sporking/recap/(mental)breakdown you didn’t ask for, because it’s not like that’s ever been done before.Continue reading
|Hello, all. First off, a quick apology to those of you how might’ve already pre-ordered Flying High for Dec. 14th. Some of you are probably surprised and maybe a little upset that it was on pre-order, but as I’m embarrassed that I’ve had to move and cancel pre-orders in the past and mostly wanted to do so to make setting up links in the backmatter of my other books and promotional stuff easier, I hesitated to make a big announcement about it. As you have probably already guessed, I once again had to adjust the release date. It will be out once and for all on Dec. 26, however, and I’m also working hard to bring you an early Christmas surprise… though given all the wild ups and downs that have been happening in my life lately that lead to me postponing my upcoming releases yet again that I’d been literally in tears over with both anxiety and excitement, I can’t make any promises. |
You might have also noticed that Dec. 26 was originally the pre-order release date for Tangled Love, and probably still appears as such on Amazon as you’re reading this email, since KDP can be pretty slow to update. Long story short (and I promise I’ll give you more details on what’s been going on with me, like I promised in a blog post months back, but the basic version is I now know much of my depression and anxiety stem from ADHD, yay), after a lot of hard deliberation, I decided to yet AGAIN switch the planned release dates of Flying High and Tangled Love. I know, I know, I really need to figure out how to focus on one single writing project long enough to finish it in a reasonable time, but I promise I’m working on it. Like, starting therapy with a new counselor and possibly getting on medication working on it.
So, the final (I hope and pray) and absolute release dates for each book will be Dec. 26 and Jan 9, respectively. And I mean it when I say this was hard, because I’ve been beating myself up over the fact that it’s already been over TWO YEARS since Strictly Business came out, and I’m ashamed of the fact that I’ll now be pushing the release of book three of The Loft series into year 3. I figured I might as well give up and throw the whole thing out before I could stomach doing that, but it is what it is at this point, and I know myself at least well enough to know that I can’t have it done in time for the end of 2020. I hope that those of you who’ve enjoyed Tera and Eric’s story so far are still willing to stick it out for just a few more weeks, because despite how long it’s taken, I am really proud of this latest installment–of how far they’ve come as characters and how far I’ve come in my writing since my first book.
Did I say this was going to be quick? Sorry about that. Anyway, that’s the somewhat abbreviated version of what’s been up with me, and I hope you all aren’t too mad at me and are still eager for the next installments of both of my ongoing series. I will say that I am very hopeful about next year (and yes, I know I’ve said that kind of thing several times in the past), and I have a lot of big plans. And while I am trying to be realistic about things, I do also have reason to believe that things are genuinely turning around for me this time, and that next year I’ll actually be able to put out multiple books. I mean, I guess it helps that I’m always jumping around between projects and I basically have six novels entirely plotted out in my head at any given time…
And I wasn’t kidding when I said there might be a Christmas surprise to look forward to in a few days… the surprise being if I can actually finish it before Christmas! Yay me for having a literally last-minute bright idea to bring a bunch of half-baked and abandoned side projects together for a holiday-themed short story collection when I really needed to be working on one of my two long-overdue books. To be fair to myself, though, I do feel like it was good for my mental health during a period when I’ve pretty much been at rock bottom to take a break from pulling my hair out trying to focus on my main books to write a few side stories featuring my characters that were mostly just for me, but hey, if you guys want to read them as well, that would be amazing.
And just one final note, you might have also noticed that the model stock photos on the covers of High Risk and Risky Business have been switched and were wondering why. Well, I’m guessing a hand lightly cupping the underside of a boob is too risque for Amazon, because the original cover was rejected when I tried to submit High Risk for Amazon ads a few months back. The simplest solution at the time seemed to be to swap it out for the “more innocent” pose on the Flying High cover, and even though I didn’t think the color scheme on the covers looked quite as nice with the new photos at first, it’s kinda grown on me since then. Sorry to anyone who really preferred the look of the old covers.
So, if my holiday shorts collection is ready in time, then you’ll be hearing from me again very soon! And whether or not it is, I hope you all have a happy holiday season and are doing as well as can be expected this year. Take care of yourselves.
Hello, my lovely readers! I hope you’ve been doing well the last few days. Thanks so much for hanging in there while my attention from finishing up Flying High. It’s been a rough and stressful week so far and it’s not over yet, but my family member that was going through a health crisis is doing better and things in general are starting to settle down.
But to tide you over until Flying High officially comes out next Friday, how about an exclusive excerpt?Continue reading
Good news, everyone! At long, looooong last, High Risk is finally a reality! It’s been a wild and nerve-wracking few days for me getting ready for this book to go live, and after so long I can’t believe it’s finally here. I want to laugh and cry and maybe throw up just a little from the agony and ecstasy of waiting to see if people will love or hate my book.Continue reading
Hello, friends! I’m so sorry once again for disappearing on you for such a long time. I know that many of you who’ve been with me for a while have been anxiously waiting for the next installment of The Loft as well as High Risk. I’m sure a lot of you were starting to wonder if I was ever going to come back to my unfinished business, and for that, I apologize. 2019 was not a good year for me for many reasons, in terms of my mental health, and in dealing with some family shakeups including the passing of my grandfather and uncle, both of whom I was very close to. I try not to get too uncomfortably personal on my blog or social media in my author persona, but considering it’s been ages in Romancelandia time since I’ve published anything, I feel as though I owe it to all of you to at least give you somewhat of an idea as to what’s been going on with me.
Admittedly, I’ve struggled a lot with feeling like a disappointment, sometimes wondering if I should simply let my romance pen name die a quiet death since it’s been so long. But writing these stories has meant so much to me, and despite the many, many setbacks, moments of self-doubt, and all the drafts they’ve been through before I felt confident I could share them with you, I know I can’t simply give this up.
And with all that being said, I do finally have some exciting news for you! At long last, the wait has paid off (for me, at least), and starting early next month you can expect a flurry of new books coming your way! Well, maybe not a flurry, but I’m feeling impatient with this backlog of finished and mostly-finished books I’ve been working on but haven’t been ready to publish for various reasons, so now you can expect at least a couple in rapid-fire succession over the next two months, starting with Tangled Love! Yes, I know I’ve gone back and forth over whether or not it or High Risk would come out first, but now book three of The Loft definitely will be, in just over a week! Not to worry, though High Risk will be here shortly, towards the end of February.
I would like to emphasize, though, that these are estimated dates, despite my confidence that Tangled Love, at the very least, will be hitting Amazon and other stores in about a week. But I recognize that at various points in the past I’ve made overly-optimistic promises to have books out on certain dates, only to be forced to push back the deadline and then slip a bit into a self-defeating depressive funk over my disappointment. I’m trying as best I can to avoid that now, both for my own sake, and for the sake of giving you guys the best book possible.
That being said, though, I have yet more good news! The Loft series is finally coming to audio, with audiobook versions of the first three books currently in production! I’m anticipating a mid-March release for Whip Smart, which will be available through Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. I’ve really started to get into audiobooks in the past few months, so I’ve been pretty excited about this, and I can’t wait for you to hear the fantastic pair of narrators I’me working with bring Tera and Eric to life. So, if audiobooks are your thing, look for updates on that in the coming weeks/months.
Thank you so much again for sticking with me through thick and thin. It means the world to me to know that there are those of you out there eager to find out what happens next with Eric and Tera, to fall in love with Kiera and Caleb, and to just explore the world I’ve created through my stories. These characters might be fictional, but writing their stories and spending time with them is often very cathartic for me and gets me through the tough times, and it’s a wonderful feeling being able to share that with others. I can’t wait to share the next story with all of you. Until then, stay classy, and happy reading… 😉
In the meantime, though, Whip Smart and Strictly Business are currently on sale, and in celebration of the upcoming release of book three, both books are included in the BIG WEEKEND BLAST sale, courtesy of Bookfunnel. Looking for a great new romance read to tide you over until Tangled Love is out? Well, look no further, because this fabulous multi-author sale has all the free and discounted romance you could ever want in just about every subgenre!
Hello, my lovely and eternally patient readers. I’m sure you’re probably all wondering where I’ve been since my last update about two months ago promising that I’d finally have a new book coming very soon. Or, if you’ve been following me for a while, you’re probably just disappointed but not surprised by my unscheduled hiatus.
Needless to say, I’m disappointed in myself as well, and I’m very sorry for leaving all of you hanging. For those of you who’ve been waiting since last year(!) for the release of High Risk as well as the next installment of The Loft, as well as those of you who are new readers, I know you deserve so much better. All I can say is that I’m sorry, and do my best to explain that this past year–and the past few months in particular–have been very rough mental-health wise, in addition to a number of other shakeups in my life. I feel as though this has been my excuse in the past too many times, and it breaks my heart that until now it’s been such a struggle for me to put out books at a faster pace. I actually have somewhat of a backlog of partially-finished works that I’m cautiously optimistic that I could finish and publish at fairly quick succession if I really buckled down. And I’m really hoping that now that I’m finally reaching a place of greater stability in my life again, I can finally get focused and organized enough to put out a few things within the next few months.
But as good as it can feel to get things off my chest, it wouldn’t be fair for me to unload all of that on you. So, I’m going to look on the bright side of things and share with you what you have to look forward to from me in the coming weeks and months! At long last, after having gone through hell and back and through more revisions and scrapped ideas than I can count, High Risk will finally be out on February 12. And while I’d originally planned on releasing it as a KU exclusive for at least its first three months, after some debate I’ve decided that a wide release is the way to go. So all of you lovely non-Kindle readers out there can enjoy Kiera and Caleb’s story as well! Unfortunately, due to my various setbacks, this does mean that the audiobook edition I’d hoped to have out by the end of the year won’t be happening just yet, but look for it sometime early next spring.
But what about Tangled Love? Yes, I know that I’d said in my last update that my plans hand changed, and book three of Eric and Tera’s story would be coming out before High Risk. As it turned out, though, the final draft of High Risk ended up coming together quicker than Tangled Love did, and for various story-related reasons, it just felt like it made sense to me personally to release it first after all. But not to worry, Loft enthusiasts; Tangled Love will also be coming your way very soon! And in the meantime, the Nook edition still available for pre-order, now at the reduced price of $3.99!
As for sequels and other future books? Well, as I’ve said, I already have a lot of work done on several books, most significantly books 2 and 4 of The Risky Business Duet and The Loft, respectively. As such, I’m really hoping to release both of these not long after the previously-mentioned books. Ambitious, I know, but rather than making any concrete promises that I’ll end up being incredibly depressed over if I can’t keep them, I just want to share my hopes and dreams with all of you. At the very least, I’d like to have Kiera and Caleb’s duology completed by the end of Feb, and a satisfying three or four book arc for Tera and Eric (the plan is still for 5 total books in The Loft, but tbh what happens after book 4 is still a little hazy and ever-changing.) by the end of the spring.
Before this post starts to get reeeeaaaallllly long-winded, I just want to thank you all again so much for sticking around. It kills me that I’ve had so many setbacks, but I want you to know that I’ve been hard at work to make the wait worth your while. Each character I create and each story I write means so much to me (maybe a little too much at times), and it makes me so happy to be able to share them with others. I can’t wait to share High Risk with all of you.
In the meantime, I’m participating in a free giveaway courtesy of Bookfunnel: Fall in Love with Romance! This month-long giveaway features a whopping 130 books that are sure to heat things up as the weather gets colder, from dozens of amazing authors. So grab a book or several before they’re gone, and maybe discover a new favorite author along the way!
Hello, lovely readers! Just a quick announcement first: unfortunately, the release of Tangled Love will be postponed for just a few days, until Sept. 18th. Sorry to do this, but I did an oops and accidentally planned the release when I’m supposed to be going away for a wedding, and I’d rather be around to make sure release day goes off without a hitch (since I’ll be busy and probably won’t be around my laptop very much). I know I’m pushing it pretty close to the release of High Risk at the end of the month, but I hope it won’t be too annoying. Actually, considering there are things (particularly a certain character) that will be introduced or revisited in Tangled Love that will later become significant in the Risky Business Duet, I’m pretty pleased releasing then in quick succession looks like it’ll work out okay, even though I probably should’ve planned for a bit more breathing room between the two.
But if it’s any consolation for the postponement, how about an exclusive excerpt? This one’s just a quickie and there will be more where this came from in the next few days, but I hope it gets you intrigued for what’s going on between Eric and Tera. Just so you know, it is mildly NSFW and obliquely references past abuse.Continue reading
Hello, lovely readers! The release of Tangled Love is just two weeks away! Keep a lookout for some exclusive excerpts and a few other exciting things over the next week as the countdown to it going live begins. In the meantime, though, I’m excited to share its sexy brand-new cover with all of you!
Pretty, isn’t it? I actually originally had a whole set of covers made up for all of the planned books in the series around the time that Whip Smart came out, but after revamping the covers for the first two books, I figured that this one might be due for a makeover as well. Want to send my new book baby out into the wide world (literally, this time; planning my very first wide book release is kinda daunting) looking it’s hottest, after all. And be sure to keep an eye on this blog or on my newsletter in about a month or so, because you might just get to choose the cover for the next installment of The Loft…
Aaaaand of course, don’t forget, there’s still time to pre-order Tangled Love for $2.50 (that’s 50% off!) with the coupon code BNPLOFT50 at barnesandnoble.com. (Side note: if for whatever reason the product page says it’s not available for coupon codes beneath the book cover, don’t worry, it does actually work when you put the code in at checkout)
Just a quick aside before you peace out: I know that this blog has been a little bare-bones as far as author blogs go, mainly just a place to keep you updated on my book releases and such. And while I may not get to it right away, I’m hoping to spice things up a bit in the near future with some more entertaining content that’s actually worth hanging around for. There’s probably a few of you who already know this about me, but I actually used to run a small book review/movie review/writing/whatever blog. I say “used to” hesitantly and not without a mountain of regret, because while it’s technically on an extended hiatus and I’m still hoping to get back to blogging eventually, the sad truth is that between my day job, romance novel-ing, and grad school-ing, I simply haven’t had time for it.
One of these days I might actually learn to manage my time better, but until then, I think I might try posting the occasional snarky movie review or long-overdue Game of Thrones rant or whatever on here, and hey, maybe you’ll finally find some actual book reviews on my Goodreads author profile as well, because honestly the fact that it currently gives off the impression that I’m a writer who never reads or has opinions makes me a little uncomfortable.
I don’t know… maybe it’ll all just be a failed experiment. I am curious as to what kind of content all of you would like to see on this blog, though. Would you be interested in the occasional book review, or seeing me pick apart weird/bad movies while trying to be funny? Honestly, while I’d like to do a few more movie live-tweets of movies like I did for Darc a while back and Eyes Wide Shut even longer ago, live-tweeting to me is a bit of a drain (I sit down to watch a 1.5 hour movie and decide to start tweeting, but I have to pause the movie each time to concentrate and before I know it 3 hours have disappeared) and just writing a review after sitting through the whole film is more my style. So, let me know in the comments or feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or Facebook if you’d be into content like that!
